Prime heifers (21) averaged 201.6p (+2p) and sold to 235p a kg and £1,445.25 for a 615kg Lim from Pringle Avenue, Tarves, to Backmuir Livestock, Keith. Young bulls (four) averaged 153.5p (nc) and sold to 183p a kg and £1,372.50 for a 750kg A-A from Cowfords, Strichen. Bullocks 30 to 48 months (six) averaged 179.5p (-2.1p) and sold to 207p a kg and £1,666.35 for a 805kg Lim from Nether Mains. Heifers (seven) averaged 161p (nc) and sold to 211p a kg and £1,287.10 for a 610kg Lim from Craig show die, Ardallie. All classes were dearer on the week. THAINSTONE – All classes of OTM cattle again met an excellent trade short of buyers’ requiremen­ts. Beef cows (116) averaged 139.2p and sold to 183.8p a kg for a 680kg Lim from Housebay, Stronsay, and £1,570 for a 855kg BB from Clashnoir, Auch narrow. Dairy cows (10) averaged 93.4p and sold to 121.6p a kg for a 670kg Fri and £895 for a 770kg Fri both from Quendale, Dunrossnes­s. Farrow bulls (five) averaged 102.2p and sold to 119.5p a kg and £1,410 for a 1,180kg Char from Mains of Leask, Slains. Leading prices per kg: Beef cows: Clashnoir (BB) 183p; Redhouse of Barra (Lim) 171.7p; Drod land (Sim) 166.7p. Dairy cows: Quendale (Fri) 116.2p. THAINSTONE – New season lambs (289) averaged 184.79p (+2.9p) and sold to 282.6 p a kg and £130 for 46kg Tex from Kinknockie, Mintlaw. Old season lambs (317) averaged 140.9 (-5.3p) and sold to 158.5p a kg for 47kg Tex from Boghead of Drumdollo, Drumblade, and £83.50 for 67kg Tex from Black Castle, Gollanfiel­d, and 59kg Char from Heads of Auchinderr­an, Keith. New season SQQ up to 45.5kg (134) averaged 192.7p a kg (-5p). Old season SQQ up to 45.5kg (224) averaged 141.6p a kg. The annual show and sale of Tex lambs was held in conjunctio­n with the North of Scotland Texel Sheep Club and sponsored by Towns and Carnie. Blair Duffton, 2 Bogie Street, Huntly, was the judge and he awarded the championsh­ip to a pair of 46kg Tex X from Emslies Livestock, Kinknockie, Mintlaw, and sold for £130 a head and 282.6p a kg to A. J. Ingram, East Comalegy, Drumblade, for Millers of Speyside. Reserve pair were 46.5kg Tex X from W. and J. Brown, Hilton of Culsh, New Deer, and selling for £106 a head and 227.9p a kg to A. J. Ingram.
