British victim ‘was kind and thoughtful all his life’

-

A 36- year- old Briton among those killed in the massacre at the Bataclan has been described by a family friend as “very, very thoughtful”.

Nick Alexander, from Colchester, the only British fatality confirmed so far, was selling merchandise for American rock group Eagles of Death Metal when their concert was targeted.

Video footage has emerged of the moment the terrorists attacked, firing repeatedly at fans as band members fled the stage.

All members of the band were confirmed to be safe and accounted for after an initial statement from their management said they were still trying to determine the whereabouts of the band and crew.

The Reverend David Newman, Mr Alexander's family vicar, said: “We are all deeply, deeply shocked by this terrible event.

“The Alexanders are a well-respected local family and have been part of the church community since they came here.”

Speaking from the church near the family’s home, he said: “Nick was brought up in the church and it’s something that will be felt not only by his immediatefriends butbyall of us. I believe that in due course the community will cohere and do as it can to support the Alexander family and all those who knew, respected and were so fond of Nick throughout his life.

“He was very, very thoughtful – especially to older people. Evenwhenhe was a schoolboy he used to go and help by reading to blind people, and many other kindnesses that perhaps one might not expect from a boy of that age. Throughout his life he has been the same person, and that person is one of kindliness and thoughtfulness.”
