Fairytale mansion
It’s often every child’s dream to live in a home lifted from the pages of a storybook, writes Laura Redpath
Alarge house with white harled stone walls backdropped against green grass, blue skies and sunshine is what we’ve imagined living in, somewhere down the line. That is, until reality reminds us that such a property is more often than not, a work of fiction.
But in steps Fae Me Well. An exception to the rule, the magnificent seven-bedroom property on the outskirts of Aberdeen dates back to the 1840s when it was used as a farmhouse, before it was cleverly extended. Today, it benefits from a comprehensive upgrade.
Walking through the front door, guests will be quick to notice the many traditional features which have been preserved over the years.
The home boasts large bay windows, high ceilings, ornate pitch pine doors and open fires, all of which only begin to touch on the charming character of the home.
Spreading three floors, the decor is tasteful, and no one would find themselves short of a place relax in.
The three contrasting reception rooms each boast their own ambience, making the home perfect for any mood or occasion.
An abundance of light bleeds into the inviting living room which is styled in neutral and warm tones.
The fireplace with its beautiful ornate pine and gesso mantel piece brings a sense of snugness to the room.
Across the hallway is the formal drawing room and an elegant dining room, which decorated in a relaxing shade of green, makes a perfect entertainment spot.
Taking the spotlight downstairs is the recently revamped kitchen, injecting a little modernity into the building’s traditional style.
The contemporary open plan layout makes for stunning views of the garden while the large windows let in plenty of light. There’s a strip of fitted units and integrated appliances which lead to a seating area which boasts a gas burner.
Upstairs, the bedrooms are of generous size and are warm and relaxing. The master benefits from a dressing room and en suite shower room.
Included in the sale is The Cottage, an attached self-contained annex, and The Lodge, a detached, granite five-bedroom home which have been successfully rented out in the past by the seller.
So if you fancy living the country dream on the secluded garden grounds in the unspoilt hamlet of Cothal, all you need is a cheque for at least £1.1million.
