Who helped you get where you are today? Myself, mainly. But I also had the help of my dad, who purchased my first van for me.

What do you still hope to achieve in business? We work across Scotland currently, but I want to work across the whole of the UK. I want the business still to be headquartered in Inverness, but I intend to have offices in the central belt and in England too.

What is your greatest business challenge today? Attracting the right staff to your team to make expansion easier. We’re currently on a recruitment drive to employ more gas and heating engineers. I want to have long-term staff members who are aligned to the company’s values and ethos.

If you were in power in government, what would you change? When I first started out, it was really hard to get the finance to buy the tools I needed to do the work and also gain the finance to purchase vans. I would make it much easier for start-ups who have sound business plans to access finance.

Where is your favourite place to go on holiday? After I started the business in 2010 I didn’t go on holiday for four years, and worked every weekend and Christmas shift going – but I took a holiday this year though. My favourite place I’ve been to so far is Italy. Nice food, wine and scenery.

Do you have any spare time and, if so, what do you do? I’ve reduced my working week from seven days to six, and in my spare time I like to go to the gym to alleviate stress, or spend time with my partner, Katie Jorgenson. What are you reading, listening to or glued to on TV? My reading list is mainly work – I like to read up on latest legislation, not very interesting! Box sets, I watch now and again. A favourite is Breaking Bad.

If you were a character in a TV series or movie, who would you be? My family has nicknamed me Sir Alan – so may be Alan Sugar!

What do you drive and dream of driving? I drive a Land Rover Discovery at the moment, but my dream car is a Ferrari.

What would your children (or partner) say about you? My fiancé would probably say I’m very focused and driven, maybe work a bit too much!

Which charity do you support and why? Personally, I support the Red Cross, but as a company and as we grow, we are currently looking at social corporate responsibility.

What’s on your bucket list – the things you still want to accomplish? In five years I aim for the company to be turning over £10million. I want to live in a nice house and live a comfortable life, with little drama.
