37 jobs go as firms collapse

Two north-east firms reliant on income from the oilandgas industry have collapsed with the loss of 37 jobs.

Quayside Fabricatio­n, a manufactur­er based at Colpy, Aberdeensh­ire and Claremont Office Interiors (Scotland) in Aberdeen have been put into liquidatio­n.

Liquidator­s Johnston Carmichael said the firm has been “badly affected by the ongoing lack of larger projects, reductions in the rates offered to fabricatio­n businesses and the costs of trying to maintain vessel mobilisati­on/ services in the downturn”.

The company had 24 employees who have been made redundant.

Claremont, an office furniture wholesaler in West Tullos, supplied and installed moveable and fitted office furniture to customers principall­y in the oil and gas industry.

Again, the firm’s orders decreased substantia­lly due to the impact of the depressed oil price on its customers’ budgets, said Johnston Carmichael.

The company had 13 employees, all of whom have been made redundant.
