Burke’s arrival shows County appeal

Staggies: Quinn sees changes at Dingwall

Ross County captain Paul Quinn reckons the signing of former Scotland international Chris Burke is a sign of his club’s progress.

County earlier this week secured midfielder Burke, who began his career with Rangers, on a deal until the end of the season after he left English Championship side Nottingham Forest in the summer.

Defender Quinn, who is in his second spell with County after rejoining from Aberdeen in January, believes the deal was one the Highlanders would not have been able to pull off in years gone by.

Winning the League Cup, as well as the facilities at Victoria Park, has made the Highlanders an attractive option for players and Quinn said: “A few years ago, County possibly wouldn’t have been able to tempt Chris to come here.

“But now, how we play, how we train, the facilities we have and the investment, that changes things for everyone.

“Our aims and our targets are attractive to good players. One of the first things Chris asked me was what Ross County actually want to achieve.

“I spoke to him and told him what a demanding group of players we have here and that’s before the manager and chairman even make their demands of us.

“Chris is delighted with that and more than happy with the challenge. He wants to come here and better us, better himself and the club. That’s a huge, positive step on the way for the club.”

County host St Johnstone in the Premiership today after two impressive 0- 0 away draws against Rangers and Hearts.

Quinn says there will be no difference in the approach for the visit of the Perth side and added: “We know it will be totally different to Rangers and Hearts, but we go into it with the same principles – we don’t want to concede and we want to score.

“We didn’t go to Ibrox to take a draw although we would have taken it. We went there to try towin the game, knowing we can create chances.

“St Johnstone will be no different. We will go out for a clean sheet and to play well, but we want to score goals.

“That’s the same target we’ve had the last three weeks and it will be the exact same for the next 25 to 30 games, the same motivation.”
