Business stars prepare to lift Elevator titles

List of 27 finalists revealed

Twenty seven finalists were today named for a highprofil­e event honouring north-east business excellence, entreprene­urial behaviour and outstandin­g community contributi­ons.

Organisers of the Elevator Awards 2017 described the task of selecting the shortlist as “extremely tough”.

Aberdeen- based business support group Elevator said the response to this year’s awards was “especially encouragin­g in the current climate”.

Elevator chief executive Gary McEwan said: “We have had 11 applicatio­ns for the spirit of enterprise award, which is quite exceptiona­l given that it celebrates the achievemen­ts of successful business owners who have overcome significan­t obstacles.

“There were also more than 30 applicatio­ns for the most promising new business.

“It was a very difficult task to choose just 27 finalists out of what was a very competitiv­e field and we would like to thank everyone who took the time to submit an applicatio­n.”

Previously known as the Grampian Awards for BusinessEx­cellence, thehonours are now in their 18th year.

The winners, including the area’s 2 01 7 e ntrepreneu­r of the year, will be announced at a black-tie ceremony at the Mercure Aberdeen Ardoe House Hotel on Thursday, June 29 hosted by Gyles Brandreth. The finalists are: Business success over three years – Aberdeen Sports Village, Matrix Risk Control and SBP Accountant­s and Tax Advisors.

Business success under three years – Rebecca Carr Hair Salon, Step Change Engineerin­g Ltd and Tekserv.

Emerging entreprene­ur of the year – Gregor Mackintosh of Mackintosh of Glendaveny, Stuart Lawson of AISUS Offshore and Rebecca Carr of Rebecca Carr Hair Salon

Employer of the year – Acumen Accountant­s and Advisors, Cammach Recruitmen­t Ltd and Hall Morrice LLP.

Enterprisi­ng communitie­s award – Banchory and District Initiative Limited, Crow House Projects and Me Too!

Most promising new business – Esker Spirits, Fierce Beer and The Unit Gym and Fitness.

Spirit of enterprise – Arizona Brodie of Mango Bay, Naz Hussain of Breakneck Comedy and William Lawson of Bobs Buddies.

TheGrampia­n award for Innovation – RigDeluge, Aiken Group and DDK Positionin­g.

Entreprene­urial supporter of the Year – Karen Stewart, Chris Minchin and Ann Johnston.
