Legends deliver plenty of goals as sun shines on Boyd testimonial match
The sun shone for Ross County stalwart Scott Boyd in his testimonial match at Victoria Park yesterday. Supporters also basked in the atmosphere of celebration and were duly entertained by some famous names on both sides as the Staggies Legends drew 4-4 with their Celtic counterparts. There was no shortage of goals or skill on show either in the match for the defender who now plays for Kilmarnock. The game was played at a leisurely pace. The home legends team got off to a flier when County’s development coach Stuart Kettlewell sent an angled drive into the back of the net after just 25 seconds. It was 2-0 for County in the eighth minute when Paul Di Giacomo raced on to a defence splitting pass from another ex-County favourite Paul Lawson before squaring the ball for Andy Barrowman, who netted. Callum Robertson, the former Raith Rovers player who was making a guest appearance for the Celtic team, pulled a goal back in the 31st minute with a fine finish Former Don Robbie Winters raced on to a long through ball five minutes from the break to knock the ball past County goalkeeper Tony Bullock to make it 2-2. In first-half stoppage time, Robertson scored again after being sent clear by Simon Donnelly to give Celtic Legends a half-time lead. It was all square again in the 57th minute when substitute Colin McMenamin intercepted a pass back to score. The Hoops edged ahead again in 71 minutes when Joe Miller, who had just come back on to the park, nodded in at the back post. But fittingly, with seconds to go, it was Richard Brittain, Boyd’s skipper for most of his time at County, who popped up with a last-minute equaliser.
