Still seals silver
Aberdonian on British podium
Aberdeen skier Ella Still was content to climb on to the podium at the DelanceyBritish national alpine ski championships yesterday.
Having finished 12th overall and as the seventh fastest Briton in Monday’s super-G, Still finally got her hands on the silverware as she finished second in the women’s slalom in Tignes.
The 19-year-old crossed the line in acombinedtime of1min 28.27sec, with times of 44.86 and 43.41sec in her first and second runs respectively.
It meant she was just 0.72sec short of the winning mark set by Perth’s Charlie Guest but, having not been enamoured with her display on the piste, Still was glad to have been able to give a solid performance.
She said: “I’m happy with second. It’s been a tough seasonwith notalot ofpodiumsor results, so it’s good to have finally got one. My first run wasn’t great. I didn’t ski well and was perhaps a bit safe. In the second run, I went for it and, although I made a few mistakes, I was happier with the ski-ing and my attacking.
“Thankfully, it paid off. I’m not e sure what went wrong in the first run but Iwas definitely over-thinking everything.”
Next up for Still is today’s Giant Slalom. There was disappointment for fellow Aberdeen skier Kieran Troup, who crashed out on his opening run in the men’s giant slalom. That result meant the 16-year-old was prevented a second run and must now focus his attentions on today’s slalom event.
