McGee’s men won’t give up their own promotion push
Caithness head coach Tom McGee is adamant Gordonians will not have it all their own way in tomorrow’s top-of-the-table Caledonia 1match at Countesswells in Aberdeen.
Gordonians will seal the title with a victory but McGee says his players are not prepared to give up on their own promotion push.
Gordonians are five points ahead with a game in hand but McGee said: “The guys are all really excited about this game.
“Gordonians play good rugby, they are a dynamic and quick team. If we allow them to play their A-game it’s going to be tough and we know we need to compete with that.
“We know we have parts of our game that are really strong that can make things difficult for them.
“We had 14 players missing for last week’s 44-28 win at Mackie Academy but we’ve got a couple of guys back from offshore and a fewinjury returns, so we’re going there with all guns blazing.”
McGee is proud of the efforts of his players in his first season in charge at Millbank.
He added: “We have done tremendously well to put ourselves in this position, to even have a chance of promotion.
“I’m delighted for the guys given their dedication through the year to keep working with me, driving them on to try and win things.
“Although our game has improved, ultimately it’s about the whole team buying into something.”
Gordonians captain Tom Williams believes the Aberdeen side can shrug off last week's defeat in the semi-finals of the National Shield.
He said: “After the disappointment of losing out to a last- minute try against Murrayfield Wanderers, the boys have regrouped and drawn on the positives of the season. We want to achieve our long-held ambition of going into the National League.
“We know just how hard the game will be against Caithness but there is a fierce determination within the team, which will hopefully bring about a fitting end to the season for everyone at the club.”
