Fisher plea to make amends Caley Thistle forward hopes for new contract to lead return to top flight
Caley Thistle forward Alex Fisher hopes his club can return to the Scottish Premiership at the first time of asking if there is no great cull of the squad.
Manager Richie Foran’s future will be resolved in the next 48 hours after talks with Caley Thistle chairman Kenny Cameron and his directors following the club’s relegation to the Scottish Championship.
A 3-2 victory against Motherwell on Saturday was not enough to save them from the drop with Hamilton Accies defeating Dundee 4-0 to secure a last chance of survival in the play-offs against Dundee United.
Supporters vented their frustration at the club’s directors after the match with some circling chairman Cameron’s car as he attempted to leave the ground after the match.
Fisher, who scored twice during Saturday’s win to finish the season as the club’s leading scorer with eight goals, said: “It is a squad room full of good, honest people. When the chips are down it is easy to criticise, but we stuck together.
“We had four wins going into the last five matches and almost doubled our win ratio which was a positive.
“We got a great turnout on Saturday and it was disappointing we weren’t able to take it to the playoffs.
“Regrettably we have finished bottom but we have shown during the season we are capable of achieving some really good things.
“If the team sticks together I’m sure it could turn things around very quickly.
“We can only learn from experiences like this. I’m sure everyone involved will take a look at their role and try to improve for next year.”
Fisher, however, is unsure whether he will be offered a new deal to be part of the team that attempts to win promotion next season. He said: “I wish I had played more games this season. My record over the last few games speaks for itself. Everyone wants to play as much football as they can and my chance came towards the end of the season. The manager trusted me when he needed results and I have enjoyed every minute on the pitch.
“I signed a six-month extension in January so I am waiting to hear what happens now.
“I have to assess my situation, but this is a great club and I would like to be part of something.

back up if we stick together. That is something I would think long and hard about.
“If I am part of the plans then I would like to get involved.
“I’m not sure when we will have that chat as I don’t know what is going on regarding the board and positions so I guess I have to wait for that to settle down before they start looking at players for next year.
“That conversation may be a few days away.”
