Students’ show to raise funds

-

Two local wind bands are aiming to bring the house down in a bid to raise valuable funds for new music.

Students from Inverness Schools Wind Band (ISWB) who attend both Millburn Academy and Dingwall Academy are to come together to put on a show at Millburn Academy next week, to raise cash to buy music and other essential items for the bands.

The free event is on Wednesday, November 22, from 7pm, with attendees being requested to leave a donation on departure.

The council’s music development officer Norman Bolton said: “It’s important for these groups to survive and grow – they offer so much more than music, in terms of social skills and learning to cooperate with others in a supported environment.”

Wind bands across the Highlands are provided by the Highland Council’s Instrument Music Tuition Service. They provide musical tuition in both secondary and primary schools, in a bid to improve the welfare of young musicians.

Mr Bolton also spoke of the advantages such schemes as this one give to the students. He added: “ISWB performs to a very high standard. As one of the regular weekly groups run as an extension to our Instrumental Tuition Service, this kind of group is an essential step in both musical and social terms for pupils who wish to extend their skills beyond what their own schools might be able to offer.”
