New role for former BP North Sea leader
Exclusive: Delight as Trevor Garlick appointed to SCDI board
Former BP North Sea boss Trevor Garlick is joining the board of the Scottish Council for Development and Industry (SCDI) as the leading business group’s new north-east committee chairman.
Mr Garlick – BP’s regional president for the North Sea from 2010-2015 – will take over as SCDI northeast chairman from Colin Parker, Aberdeen Harbour Board’s outgoing chief executive, in January.
SCDI recently announced a raft of new appointments to its board to reflect “a new dynamism and focus” as it sets about creating a blueprint for Scotland’s economic future.
The changes are part of a strategy within the organisation to highlight ambition and an investment in people and technology.
Chief executive Mark Bevan said: “We’re delighted to announce the appointment of Trevor as chair of our north-east committee and subsequently to our board. Trevor brings an incredible wealth of experience and exceptional skill set, and will be an asset to SCDI at a key time for the organisation.”
Mr Garlick, who is also chairman of the oil and gas sector board at economic development body Opportunity North East, said: “I look forward to picking up the reins from my predecessor Colin Parker and would like to acknowledge his sterling work of the past six years.
“It is a privilege to be the latest in a lineage of northeast committee chairs which dates back to 1965 and I aim to be a strong advocate for the interests of our members in the region to government and others.
“I also look forward to rejoining the SCDI board and will seek to ensure the NE Scotland business perspective is fully represented in SCDI’s Scotland-wide strategic thinking”.
Mr Garlick joined BP in 1985 and over the next 30 years held a number of roles in its UK and Norwegian upstream businesses.
