Pentathlon bronze for Aberdeen’s Farquhar

Three personal bests for Davidson on fine Scotland debut

Aberdeen AAC’s Robbie Farquhar struck bronze when representi­ng Scotland in the schools indoor internatio­nal pentathlon match at Glasgow’s Emirates Arena.

Farquhar achieved personal best performanc­es of 8.23sec in the 60m hurdles and 2:18.63 in the 800m on his way to a points score of 3,431 in the over-16 age group competitio­n. His Scotland team-mate Joel McFarlane (Arbroath) won with 3,612.

The Aberdeen athlete also threw 10.75m in the shot, clocked 23.22 in the 200m and cleared 6.68 in the long jump.

Aberdeen’s Jane Davidson made an impressive Scotland debut by setting three personal best performanc­es when scoring 3,166 in the over-16 girls’ contest won by England’s Pippa Early with 3,901.

The Hazlehead Academy pupil, who was first Scot, 11th overall, produced her best efforts in the shot (8.93), long jump (5.30) and high jump (1.59). She also equalled her personal best in the 60m hurdles by recording 9.05 and completed the 800m in 2:52.36. Ban- chory’s Claire McGarvey also showed good form, setting personal bests in the shot (8.34), 60m hurdles (10.08) and long jump (4.79). She cleared 1.62 in the high jump and clocked 2:31.19 in the 800m to finish 14th with 3,058. l Matthew Alexander was first in the Inverness parkrun 5km when recording 18:21 to get the better of Highland Hill Runners duo Ryan Mckenzie, 18:28, and Gavin Whiteside, 19:10.

sixth overall from a field 166 in 19:42. Rhona Grant (Highland Hill Runners) finished second in 19:55 with Seona Burnett third in 22:19. l David Barclay (Garioch Road Runners) was first home in the Elgin parkrun 5km for the second week in a row when recording 17:39 to finish well ahead of veteran Forres runner Stephen Sharpe, who set a personal best of 18:47 in second position. Mike Stuart was third in 19:36.

Catherine Hawco was first woman in 20:30 with Gillian Grant second in 22:00 and Jenny Smith third in her best time of 23:43. l Chris Godlington was first official finisher in the Aviemore parkrun 5km when setting a personal best time of 19:18 behind an unregister­ed runner.

There was a personal best of 19:56 for second placed Ben Fiddes, while his Inverness Harriers clubmate Isla Kelly, led the women home in 20:14, 6sec ahead of Ewan Paterson (Moray Road Runners), who had a course fastest time. Megan Bee (Highland Hill Runners) was second woman in 22:17 with Louise Crilly third in 23:18. l Graeme Gardner was first in the Stonehaven parkrun 5km for the third time in four weeks when clocking 19:52 to finish well ahead of David Purvis, 21:07.

Emma Swanson (Banchory Stonehaven) was first woman when finishing third overall in 21:13, 36sec ahead of Christophe­r Parker. Fay Duff was second woman in 24:11 and Val Vertigans took third spot in 27:12.
