McAllister beats the drum for McInnes big break

-

Former Aberdeen defender Jamie McAllister believes Derek McInnes deserves a second crack at English football.

The Dons boss is on the radar of his former club West Bromwich Albion after they sacked Tony Pulis on Monday but faces competition from Ronald Koeman, Sam Allardyce and Michael O’Neill for the job at the Premier League club.

McInnes was unsuccessful in his previous spell in England with Bristol City but McAllister, who worked under the Aberdeen manager during his two years at Ashton Gate, believes the Dons boss, who has also been heavily linked with the vacant job at Rangers, is deserving of a second chance in England.

He said: “I worked with him in my final

season as a player. He’s a good manager. He struggled a little bit down here but he went back and has done really well at Aberdeen.

“He’s done a great job there and been tipped to get the Rangers job in Scotland and now I think he’s second favourite for the West Brom job.

“He’s rebuilt his reputation – he’s a good guy and I got on well with him and Tony Docherty.

“He let me go but you move on. He’s done brilliantly since then.

“I hope he gets the big job that he deserves after he’s done so well at Aberdeen – one of my old clubs – and it’s great to see them flying and doing well.

“Hopefully he gets one of the big jobs he gets touted for, Scotland, Rangers or West Brom.”
