Press and Journal confirms return to city centre

Aberdeen Journals has confirmed it will move back into the city centre later this year.

It was previously revealed the company had been in talks to move into the new £107million Marischal Square development.

And an agreement has now been struck for the publisher to return to its former Broad Street home. Aberdeen Journals, which publishes the Evening Express and the Press and Journal newspapers, is expected to move into the building in late summer.

The move will bring the papers back to the city centre – just a stone’s throw from the offices where they were printed from 1894 until moving to the Lang Stracht in the early 1970s.

The Aberdeen Journals building was demolished in January 1970 to make way for the current city council chambers.

There are also plans to open a shop, where customers can go to place notices, pay for ads, buy merchandise and book holidays, on Upperkirkgate. The move will see the Journals – part of DC Thomson Media – take the top floor of 1 Marischal Square, housing more than 200 staff from editorial, digital, advertising, newspaper sales, marketing and commercial.

Other companies which have already moved into the building include Mackie’s, Costa, All Bar One and Marriott International.

Tony Macaroni and Prezzo will also occupy the site.
