McInally braced for twists and turns to come

- BY PAUL THIRD

Peterhead manager Jim McInally has urged his side to take the League 2 title race to the wire.

Montrose are in the driving seat following their 3-2 win against the Blue Toon last weekend with the win giving them a three point lead as well as having played a game less than their rivals and McInally knows maximum points from the final six games are a must – starting with today’s home game against Annan Athletic.

He said: “We have to win all six games and if we do that and Montrose still win the league then good luck to them.

“Last weekend was sore, there’s no other way to put it. The goals we lost were so poor and watching them back it doesn’t get any better.

“It was so poor from us and the timing could not have been worse as it put Montrose in the driving seat but it’s happened and we have to put it behind us and move on.

“The players trained this week and the attitude was great.

“We’ve been in this position a few times and I wouldn’t be surprised if there were a few twists and turns in the run-in.

“We’ve all got tough games ahead of us and it seems every team has something to play for.

“We can’t think about what’s happening elsewhere, we have to focus on ourselves and make sure we win the last six games.

“That’s really all we can do.”

McInally, who expects leading goalscorer Rory McAllister to sign his new deal in the next couple of weeks, has a full squad to choose from.

“We’ve been in this position a few times”
