Drug dealer gets 18 months for £31,000 stash

-

A 36-year-old Inverness man was jailed for 18 months yesterday after admitting possessing over £31,000 worth of amphetamine with intent to supply.

Police Scotland yesterday repeated their warning to drugs dealers that they would be caught after David Ross, of Kilmuir Road, was sentenced at Inverness Sheriff Court.

He was arrested following a search of a property in the Merkinch area of the city in December 2016.

Although the force put the “street value” at approximately £15,600, Sheriff David Sutherland said that it was over £30,000.

Defence solicitor Graham Mann said his client had “self-referred” for assistance with drug and alcohol abuse.

He added that Ross had not gained financially and had moved away from the peer group he associated with. Detective Inspec- tor Peter Mackenzie said: “The arrest of David Ross followed a dedicated operation aimed at tackling his illegal activities.

“People like him only bring harm to our communities by dealing in illegal drugs which bring so much misery to people’s lives.

“Our message to the drug dealers is clear.

“We we will continue to proactively disrupt this criminal behaviour and take action against anyone we find to be involved in the drug trade.

“Our communities have made it very clear that they will not tolerate the trade in highly addictive drugs and Police Scotland relies on intelligence from the public to help tackle the drug trade.”
