Unbeaten Cove are keeping one eye on SPFL play-offs

- BY DAVE EDWARDS

The Highland League title may already be won but Cove Rangers manager John Sheran is keen to see out the campaign without tasting defeat.

The Aberdeen side has not been beaten on league duty for 476 days since a 1-0 defeat at Buckie Thistle on December 24, 2016.

The champions travel to Brora Rangers aiming to preserve that record today but Sheran already has one eye on the upcoming SPFL play-offs.

Sheran said: “Brora Rangers are a good side but for us it’s now all about getting the games finished, so we will again shuffle the pack for the trip to Dudgeon Park to keep the boys as fresh as possible.

“We’re not really thinking about our long unbeaten record.

“For the whole season, we’ve just been concentrating on trying to win the next game and then the game after that.

“We’ll just try and keep that going.”

Brora had nine players out against Inverurie Locos on Wednesday night but experienced striker Steven Mackay and midfielder Martin Maclean return for his one.

Fraserburgh must win at Nairn County if they are to have any hope of finishing second.

County welcome back central midfielder Ross Naismith, who has recovered from a calf injury.

Clach entertain Deveronvale, who were 3-1 winners at Strathspey Thistle on Wednesday.

Huntly have six players out injured, including strikers Martin Charlesworth and Dennis Wyness, while midfielder Ross Still faces a fitness test ahead of Rothes’ visit to Christie Park.

Wick Academy are without injured trio Marc MacGregor, Brandon Sinclair and Jack Henry for the visit of Inverurie Locos.

Academy manager Tom McKenna said: “We were beaten 5-1 there, so I will be looking for a more positive performance and closer result.

“After Wednesday night’s disappointing 2-2 draw at Fort William I would like to think the players will be looking to make amends.

“It’s going to be a difficult task as Inverurie are a strong team.”

Strathspey Thistle midfielders Nick Mochan and Ross Naismith are available to face Keith, who trail the Grantown outfit by a point ahead of today’s meeting at Seafield Park.
