Price accepts it’s win or bust for play-off hopes

-

Elgin City manager Gavin Price accepts anything other than a victory against Edinburgh City today will spell the end of the Black and Whites’ play-off hopes.

City fell to fifth place in League 2 after last weekend’s 4-1 defeat by Annan Athletic, with today’s game at Borough Briggs the first of three games remaining in their bid to reclaim a top-four place.

Elgin’s fate is outwith their own hands, as fourth-placed Stenhousemuir have two games in hand, and, although Price remains hopeful, he accepts there is no room for any slip-ups today.

He said: “With three games to go we are still in a position where we are only one point behind – albeit Stenny have two games in hand.

“Having come this far we have got to feel we are still in with a fighting chance.

“It’s hard to gauge what is going to happen. There may still be twists and turns but we are hopeful we will be at the right end of it come the death. It’s all still to play for but we cannot dictate what happens elsewhere.

“It is a must-win game.”

The Citizens are eighth in the table but Price is demanding a response from a 4-0 loss in their last meeting at Ainslie Park in February.

Price, who is without the suspended Jordan Allan but has fellow defender Cammy Eadie available following a ban, added: “It was a disappointing performance at Edinburgh – the poorest one since I have been in charge.

“We are looking to put that right and hopefully our home form can see us get the right result.”
