Imrie knows what is takes to survive

-

Dougie Imrie is counting on previous experience to help Hamilton survive the fight against relegation.

Accies are again involved in the relegation scrap after having survived last season by the skin of their teeth when they beat Dundee on the final day of the season before scraping through the relegation play-off.

The club has often punched above their weight in the Premiership and is once again defying the critics, and is sitting four points clear of Ross County in 10th position.

They can extend that gap with a win over Kilmarnock today before they head into the post-split fixtures, and Imrie is looking to draw on previous experiences in order to secure their status in the top flight.

“It is difficult but we have the character in the squad”

The former Caley Thistle player said: “We know what it takes to get the results.

“It’s been happening for a number of years now and it is difficult but we have the character in the squad to pull through.

“We’d like to be pulling away and not be in these situations but we have been here before and we know how and what it takes to get ourselves out of it, but it would be nice to get safe and see the season out comfortably. But we make it hard for ourselves.”

Kilmarnock assistant manager Alex Dyer is loving life in Scottish football, having helped take Killie from bottom of the Premiership to fifth since he and manager Steve Clarke were appointed in October.

He said: “It’s a good league and it’s been an eye-opener for me.

“It’s nice to come in and learn something different about different players. And as a coach you just want to better yourself, so hopefully this is good for me as well.”
