McInally: Patience pays off for my players
Peterhead boss Jim McInally felt his men got their just rewards after Jordon Brown’s late header gave the Blue Toon victory against bottom-of-the-table Cowdenbeath.
The Buchan team had to remain patient after a fine goalkeeping display from David McGurn, who nearly earned the visitors an unlikely point.
McInally said: “It was good patience from us because I could sense even at half-time that there was a frustration creeping in.
“I reminded the players there were still 45 minutes to go and just to keep at it and hope something happens.
“David McGurn is a goalkeeper I know well because I had him at Morton and he can have days when he is just a brilliant shotstopper.
“He was terrific but

we kept going and Jordon did what he does well. It was a fantastic header and a great goal. “We fully deserved it.” The win maintained Peterhead’s fine recent run but they remain three points behind title rivals Montrose with just two games remaining.
McInally added: “There is a determination among the players that if we are going to lose the title race, we will do it winning games. The one thing I would say is that, had we played at the tempo we have in the last four or five weeks earlier in the season, we would have won more games.
“We drew or lost a few matches whereas now maybe the players are more comfortable around each other and teams are finding it hard to cope with us.”
The result confirmed Cowdenbeath’s place in the pyramid play-offs for the second season running.
