The world’s first Oor Wullie-themed chip shop will open in Aberdeen this summer.

In June, Mr Chips on Great Western Road will be transforme­d into a celebratio­n of the cartoon character.

It is hoped it could be the first of many Oor Wullie Braw Fish & Chips shops to open across the country. The food will come in boxes emblazoned with scenes from his newspaper comic strip, while staff will be given themed aprons, T-shirts and caps.

youngster Oor Wullie and the Broons were first on my Christmas list.

“To bring Wullie to life in my chip shop is very exciting.”

The chipper, which serves more than 50,000 customers every year, will have a sweet shop.

Mr Thomson added: “Everyone from tots to grandparen­ts knows who Wullie is so we are expecting it to be very popular right across the generation­s.”

Martin Lindsay, licensing manager for consumer products at DC Thomson, said: “This is a vision of bringing to life a treasured brand that is built on tradition and old fashioned values.

“We see Aberdeen as being the first step on an Oor Wullie’s Braw Fish & Chips shops roll-out across Scotland within the next five years.”
