Breaks finally go Broch’s way in quest for fourth
Fraserburgh manager Mark Cowie was pleased his side remains on track for a top-four finish after a narrow 1-0 win at Rothes.
Ryan Cowie’s lastminute penalty means a victory against Strathspey Thistle tomorrow will be enough to earn the Broch a place in next season’s IRN-BRU Cup.
Cowie, whose side defeated Brora 3-1 in midweek, said: “It was nice to get a break at the end.
“Wednesday night’s trip to Brora probably took more out of us than I thought.
“I didn’t change the side as much as I normally do and we started sluggish with the heat.
“The park was fiery and it looked like everything was going against us but we kept going right to the end.
“It was a definite penalty and Ryan Christie finished well.
“We both hit the crossbar with crosses but at times you need those breaks to go for you.
“That’s the first time in six or seven games that the breaks have gone our way.”
The former Deveronvale, Turriff United and Broch midfielder added: “The performance was secondary, it was all about getting the win and we are delighted to have done it.”
Rothes assistant playermanager Daniel Moore felt that his side deserved a share of the points.
He said: “It’s a sickener, especially after our clean sheet and 1-0 win against Wick on Wednesday.
“We have found clean sheets hard to come by and to have got two on the trot, especially one against Fraserburgh, would have been great.
“We could have won the game with one effort coming off the post and another coming off the bar. We thought it was going to finish 0-0 but an unfortunate mistake cost us.
“The boys are disappointed. There wasn’t much said after the game but hopefully we can get it out of our system on Wednesday against Brora.”
