Accept democratic result of Brexit

-

SIR, – William G Murray (Letters, April 17) makes the plea for another referendum on Brexit on the basis that 18 to 24-year-olds voted 71% to Remain and over-55 years voted 65% to Leave therefore the over-55s were somehow robbing the youth of the nation of the benefits of being controlled by an unelected body for the rest of their lives.

He carefully omits the percentage vote by those between 24 and 55 and the fact that our democracy is not based on age. The vote was by the whole nation for the whole nation and the result was Brexit. Perhaps the pertinent question rather than “what will we miss if we leave the EU?”’ should be “what will we miss if we remain in the EU?”

with up-to-date facilities and parking. Of course the attraction at the Muse might be a lengthy rent-free period but even that will come to an end and the NHS may find themselves in the wrong location.

If Woodhill House is to be sold, surely the preferred option would be to come to some form of arrangement with the NHS which will continue to have an unending demand for land and accommodation. This should be possible as it all comes out of the same pocket.

Skye are being drastically cut and, in the Great Glen area, which should be “a Unesco World Heritage Site” a scenically ruinous and near-useless pumped storage scheme is proposed, so as to store electricity from wind turbines.

The late Prof David Mackay, when the Scottish Executive’s scientific adviser, warned politicos not to touch wind-generated electricity schemes until vastly improved means of its storage had been developed. As George Herraghty’s letter explains, pumped storage cannot do that. The politicians rejected the advice, with results now seen worldwide, i.e. wind turbines which, amongst their many other failings, cannot deliver enough or consistent power to meet our needs. Thus, Skye’s good NHS is being seriously damaged to save a relative pittance, whilst our taxpayers’ coffers are being depleted by billions for a dud system of electricity generation, installed by order of easily deceived, ignorant, irresponsible politicians.
