Brown slashes 50sec off personal best time

Scottish schools crosscount­ry internatio­nal Adam Brown (Aberdeen AAC) showed good pace to win the 3,000m in his club’s open graded meeting at Aberdeen Sports Village.

The Bridge of Don Academy pupil recorded 9min 14.14sec to slash 50sec off his previous best.

Owain Bristow (Aberdeen AAC) was second in 9:20.07 while Scottish universiti­es and colleges steeplecha­se champion Eoghan MacNamara (Aberdeen AAC) finished third in 9:27.39.

Aberdeen University’s Zoe Bates posted the quickest women’s time of 10:11.53 with Run Garioch 5km champion Hannah Mutch (Aberdeen AC) next best with 11:02.90 and Caitlin Purcell (Aberdeen AC) third in 11:03.30. James McIntosh

won the triple jump with a personal best 12.08 while his Aberdeen AAC clubmates William Hodi (10.54) and Kieran Gauld (10.25) were second and third respective­ly.

Scottish schools combined events internatio­nal Jane Davidson, competing in the triple jump for the first time, won the women’s competitio­n by clearing 9.26m. The Hazlehead Academy pupil’s Aberdeen AAC clubmates Ailsa Gault (8.76) and Abbie Burns (8.18) were second and third.

Hamish Battle retained the men’s title in the Scolty Hill race at Banchory by completing the 7.2km course in 35:57.

Clyde Williamson (Cosmic Hillbasher­s) was runner-up in 36:57 with Josh Benton (Deeside Runners) third in 37:23.

Scotland internatio­nal Steph Provan (Deeside Runners) won the women’s race for the third time in four years when recording 42:06 to finish 25sec ahead of Fiona McDonald (Cosmic Hillbasher­s). Deeside’s Jennie Glass (Edinburgh University) was third in 46:26.
