£500 wind farm donation will make a ‘real difference’

-

Young people from low income families in the Western Isles can attend a summer festival free of charge following a donation from a local charity.

Feis an Rubha is due to take place in Sgoil an Rubha from July 30 to August 3, with places costing £35 for the first child to attend and £30 thereafter for any siblings. Organisers are aware, however, that the sums will be too great for some families.

A £500 donation made by wind farm charity Point and Sandwick Trust should help by enabling the festival to waive admission fees for some families. It has been welcomed by the Feis committee which said the money would make “real difference” in helping it to reach young people and foster the next generation of musicians, Gaelic singers and actors.

The festival enjoyed a record attendance last year, with 60 young people taking part.
