Fibre 1 offers first for Scotland

An Elgin-based company has put itself in pole position in the race to introduce faster online download speeds.

Fibre 1 says its new products offering ultra fast broadband connection­s for businesses are the first of their kind to be offered in Scotland.

The firm was launched at the start of 2017 by managing director Stewart Macdonald, who had sold his previous telecoms business, Netdatate, to Chess three years earlier.

It now employs six people has attracted business from “London to Stornoway”.

Last year, Fibre 1 introduced its own dedicated fibre network and it has also establishe­d partnershi­ps with companies including Pangea, Talk Talk business, City Fibre and Metronet.

Among the products launched by Fibre 1, is G.fast, which allows ultra fast broadband speeds using the same copper piping that is used for voice calls. The firm has also introduced a fibre-to-the-premises, on-demand broadband product.

Ultra fast broadand is expected to reach more than 10million UK businesses by 2021.
