Aboyne player is in with shout for cup call

-

Great Britain and Ireland Curtis Cup captain Elaine Farquharson-Black names her team to face the United States today and I’m hopeful there will be a couple of Scots who make the cut.

We already have at least one with Aberdonian Elaine at the helm but a few of Scotland’s leading female amateurs should be in with a shout. Aboyne’s Shannon McWilliam, Troon’s Connie Jaffrey and Chloe Goadby, of St Regulus, have been three of the players widely tipped to make the team. There wasn’t a single Scot in the team two years ago when Great Britain and Ireland defeated the United States at Enniskerry in Ireland.

It won’t be an easy decision for Elaine and the rest of the selecting committee as there will always be people disappointed. It is great that Scotland have a few contenders and our women’s amateur game appears to be heading in the right direction. It would be great to see a couple of Scots in the team to defend the trophy against the United States at Quaker Ridge, New York, in June.
