PATRIOT GAMES: SCOTS KNOX AND LAIRD TEAM UP
Inverness golfer Russell Knox, right, and Glasgow’s Martin Laird will team up in this week’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
Pairs will play best ball for the opening round and then foursomes for the second round, with the lowest 35 teams and ties progressing through to the weekend.
The teams making the cut at TPC of Louisiana have the opportunity to pick a walk-on song to be played on the first tee and Knox says the Scottish duo have already picked Flower of Scotland should they make the final two rounds.
Knox said: “The second choice was 500 Miles by The Proclaimers. There was talk of some Braveheart music, too, but that’s pretty slow, so I decided on Flower of Scotland. You play that at a rugby match and it pumps everyone up, so there’s no reason why it can’t pump up Martin and me, too.”
