Coach Murray focuses solely on winning

Hibs under-20s coach Grant Murray has spent all season focusing on developing the club’s youngsters but insists tonight’s Scottish Youth Cup final is solely about winning.

The Easter Road colts are aiming to clinch the double at Hampden against Aberdeen having already celebrated league title success.

Although former Hearts defender Murray knows his sole remit is improving the players to a level that they will be good enough for Neil Lennon’s senior squad, the one-time Raith Rovers manager concedes the message to the players tonight will be entirely different.

He said “It’s a big occasion for them going to play at Hampden in front of their families.

stressed that, getting them training with the first team and into that first team squad but on Thursday it’s about winning the cup, it’s as simple as that – whether it’s in 90 minutes, extra time or penalties.

“They’ve got one step to go and Aberdeen are no different from us.

“It’s the chance for the double as well, we won the league and thoroughly deserved it.

“They have performed well and they managed to wrap that up, so that will give them confidence.”

Murray lifted the trophy as a Hearts youngster in 1993 as a team containing the likes of Gary Locke and Paul Ritchie overcame Rangers 3-1 at Ibrox.

The 42-year-old is now keen to complete his own double by leading Hibs to glory from the dugout.
