Folly to send out RIB in 30ft waves

- Weather

SIR, – May I suggest that to send a 15ft RIB out in 30ft waves is sheer folly.

That boat is not an all-weather lifeboat and should not be treated as such. Having spent 15 years on ERRVs in the North Sea, we would not contemplate launching the 15ft FRC in such weather.

It is relatively easy to launch a boat in bad weather, it is a different scenario altogether to retrieve it. By the way, how often do they have 30ft waves up in Dornoch?
