Rotech opens Far East office

Rotech Subsea said yesterday a recent project in Asia had led to so many inquiries that it had set up a new subsidiary and opened an office in Kuala Lumpur (KL), Malaysia, to meet demand.

The Aberdeen firm said its new business, Rotech Subsea Asia, would build on interest generated by its recent work in Myanmar.

The project, in which Rotech Subsea was contracted by Pathfinder, with Moge as the end client, saw one of the firm’s TRS2 controlled flow excavation systems shipped from the UK for a “correction” project on the largest export pipeline from Yangon.

“The new entity brings decades of cable trenching and pipeline burial/ deburial experience to the region,” Rotech Subsea said.

It added: “The local presence means Rotech’s RS range of excavators, which boast higher performance capabilities than other tools on the market, are now available for quick mobilisation for IRM (inspection, repair and maintenance) works in the region as far afield as China, Indonesia, Australia and India.”

Subsea director Stephen Cochrane said: “On the back of the project for Moge, our Asia team has been inundated with inquiries.

“The Moge project was significant because the client chose to import our team and TRS2 spread despite there being other competing equipment available.

“We have been taken aback by the interest and look forward to growing our presence in Asia.”
