Lawson intent on sealing second place

-

Formartine United manager Paul Lawson wants to finish the Highland League season in style by securing second spot.

A victory against Wick Academy at North Lodge Park this afternoon would seal runners-up spot for the Pitmedden side as well as a bye to the second round of next season’s Scottish Cup and IRN-BRU Cup.

Lawson said: “It is important as the Scottish Cup helps the club get extra funds and the players know that.

“To finish second behind a very good Cove Rangers will give us momentum going into next season.

“Wick Academy beat us 3-2 up there so we can’t afford to treat it as an endof-season game.

“We need to be up for it as we have something to play for.”

Academy manager Tom

“We only have 11 fit players. That restricts our options”

McKenna does not have his selection worries to seek. He said: “We only have 11 fit players. That restricts our options and makes our task even more difficult.”

Strathspey Thistle can move from 17th to 15th place in the table with a win against Brora Rangers at Seafield Park.

The Grantown Jags will be without the injured Nicholas Mochan, John Cameron, Ross Naismith and James Fraser, while Brora are again expected to give their youth players a chance.

Brora manager Ross Tokely said: “We had 12 players out at Rothes on Wednesday and I played. I just love playing football but I can’t do it any more, my head is telling me one thing and my legs another.”

Fort William are without suspended defender Lewis Campbell for the Claggan Park meeting with Turriff United.

Turriff manager Kris Hunter is expected to shuffle the pack after the 3-0 defeat at Nairn County last time out.
