Ross hoping to be centre of attention
Frank Ross hopes to make the most of a potential opening in the centre of Aberdeen’s midfield next season.
With Kenny McLean heading to Norwich and Chidi Nwakali returning to Manchester City, there could be an opportunity for the young Don to kick on and find a first-team berth for himself.
Ross signed a one-year contract extension this year before heading out on loan to Morton. With it being a development loan, he was able to play for Paul Sheerin’s under-20s side and was on the wrong end of Thursday night’s 3-1 defeat by Hibernian in the Scottish Youth Cup final at Hampden Park.
His sights are now set on making a name for himself in an Aberdeen shirt and not just being known for his heroics against Rangers last season.
Ross said: “The plan is to be involved in the first team and if that doesn’t happen a loan would be good. With Kenny McLean and Chidi Nwakali going – I’m not sure what’s happening with Greg Tansey – then hopefully there’s an opening at centre-mid. I’ll play wherever – I just want to play for Aberdeen. I don’t just want to be remembered for the Rangers goal. I want to score a hundred more and better ones than that.
“It’s my last year as an under-20, so it’s good to play at Hampden and hopefully we can learn from it. Hopefully I can reflect on it in a week as a good experience.
“I was on the bench in the cup final against Celtic last year but didn’t get on, so it was good to play.”
