Livi boss’s exit was a surprise

-

Ihad my doubts about whether Kenny Miller could combine a playing role and the duties of being a manager but I didn’t expect his tenure at Livingston to last just seven weeks.

There’s little which shocks me in football these days but the parting of the ways between Livi and their rookie player-boss so soon is a surprise.

I’m not a great believer in the player-manager role and the list of guys who have successfully combined both duties is a short one.

To be fair to Livi, they asked Miller to give up his playing career and focus on the management side but the veteran was not willing to do that and that left his club in a very difficult position.

They clearly feel they have no option but to make a change and the one positive for Miller is that he will have time to find another club.

What Livi do from here, however, is anyone’s guess. Maybe they will make a bid to bring David Hopkin back to the club.

He did a remarkable job in leading the club to successive promotions before opting to leave at the end of his contract in May.

He has not found employment elsewhere, though, and that leaves the door open for a possible return.

If I was a director at Livi, I’d be picking up the phone and finding out if he is interested in coming back.
