Ferguson tribunal price is right for Aberdeen

-

Aberdeen were the happier of the two parties last night after the SPFL tribunal decided a fee for midfielder Lewis Ferguson.

The 18-year-old was manager Derek McInnes’s first signing of the summer on a pre-contract agreement to move to Pitodrie from Hamilton. The Dons offered Accies £100,000 in compensation for the teenager only for Hamilton to issue a demand for £1.25million for a player who had played 14 first-team games for his club.

With no resolution in sight it was left to the SPFL to decide the fee and its valuation was nearer that of Aberdeen than their Premiership counterparts.

The SPFL confirmed last night the two clubs had been informed of the tribunal’s decision but did not reveal the sum the Dons had been ordered to pay.

Aberdeen issued a brief statement expressing their satisfaction with the outcome last night.

It read: “Following on from the compensation tribunal’s award decision this afternoon the club is satisfied with the outcome having received a fair hearing.”
