Festival in honour of bass player Music: All proceeds to go to family of north musician who died in crash

A music festival in the North will honour a musician who died earlier this year in a road accident.

The Top Rocker Festival is set to take Caithness by storm on Saturday September 1 as hundreds flock to The Dammies in Thurso.

All 450 tickets for the event have sold out three weeks ahead of the inaugural festival.

Nathan Thomas Gunn, 30, died in February this year after his car was involved in a collision with a bus on the A93 Ballater to Braemar road near Bridge of Gairn.

As part of the day’s celebration, Mr Gunn’s former band Estrella will perform in a poignant tribute to the bass guitarist.

Proceeds from the festival will also be donated to support Mr Gunn’s partner Keren and unborn child.

Festival organiser Brian Wade said: “100% of the profits generated from the festival will be donated to help support the family of the late Nathan Thomas

“We shared the good times and the hard times”

Gunn.

“Nathan and I met in Miller Academy on the first day of primary school, 25 years ago. We grew up together, lived together, played in bands, recorded music, and toured the UK. We shared the good times and the hard times, we shared at least a million laughs.

“He was an amazing character and a true friend who is sorely missed.”

Mr Wade added: “Our aim with the Top Rocker festival is to respectfully pay tribute to Nathan’s memory by having a good time, it’s an opportunity to show some support for Nathan’s family and friends and to help raise some money for Baby Gunn.

“At the Top Rocker music festival, you can expect 16 of the best live bands in Caithness, all local talent. Estrella brothers Paul and Luke have got together with some old friends to play a set to pay tribute to their late brother Nathan.

“The Caithness community is showing real support for the festival and we are overwhelmed with the response.”

In June a crowdfunding appeal generated over £8,000 to support Mr Gunn’s family.
