Glen Kamara says while Dundee’s players are fully focused on Saturday’s Premiership game at St Johnstone, no one will be able to erase memories of last weekend’s horror show against Ayr in the Betfred Cup any time soon.

The 22-year-old Finnish international made his long-awaited comeback from a niggling ankle injury in the 78th minute of the match against the Honest Men.

He was helpless to prevent the Dark Blues being dumped out of the cup, with the 3-0 defeat at Dens also including red cards for Sofien Moussa and Genseric Kusunga.

best in Saturday. We’ve got to give Ayr some credit but the defeat was down to us. We weren’t at it at all.

“We knew their qualities and had watched them so it wasn’t about underestimating them.

“We just didn’t create enough and were second best for the whole game.

“It might be a lesson for some of the new guys – you need to be ready for every game.”

He added: “It was a hard one to take and we have to pick ourselves up for a big match this weekend at St Johnstone. We need three points there.

“We will just do our stuff on the training pitches for the week coming up and put our attention now on St Johnstone.

“But we definitely have to look back on the game on Saturday – we can’t just forget about that performance.

“We have to pick ourselves up but I know this team is capable of doing that.”
