Ross County: Co-manager does not anticipate more signings this window

Ross County co-manager Steven Ferguson is confident the Staggies have the strength in depth to cope with injuries.

His side suffered several setbacks during Sunday’s 3-2 Betfred Cup loss to Hibs, with midfielder Jamie Lindsay stretchered off with an ankle injury and skipper Marcus Fraser, along with replacement full-back Stelios Demetriou, both suffering knocks in the match.

Lindsay’s injury is anticipated to be the most serious, with County awaiting news on the 22-year-old after he saw a specialist yesterday.

Ferguson believes the Staggies are well covered for all positions, with defender Liam Fontaine nearing a return from a month-long absence with an arm injury.

Ferguson said: “We picked up a few injuries and Jamie is down at a specialist being assessed.

“Hopefully it’s not as bad as we first feared.

“We’re only 48 hours after the game so there are other sore ones that were

taken which are starting to get a bit better now.

“Hopefully, everyone will be OK.

“It was an impact one with Marcus, it’s just a case of hoping that settles down quickly enough to make sure Marcus is ready for Saturday’s game at Morton.

“We were happy with how we could replace the guys with who we had on the bench.

“We’ve said all along it’s not going to be 11 players that compete at the top end of this league, it’s going to need to be more than that.

“Sunday was a good example that you don’t want to weaken your team with substitutions, and we will certainly not do that with the group of players we’ve got.”

Ferguson and fellow manager Stuart Kettlewell have made 11 summer signings.

He does not envisage much further movement ahead of next Friday’s transfer deadline.

“There are a few days left but I would suggest that’s us pretty much done,” he said.

“We are really happy with the group of players we’ve got, we feel we’ve got a good balance and competition for places all across the squad.

“That’s what we set out to do so the fact there’s no mad panic at the end of the window is quite nice.

“We look forward to working with the players we’ve got.”

County’s reserve team will host North Caledonian League side Invergordon at Victoria Park in the quarter-finals of the North of Scotland Cup tonight, with the match kicking off at 8pm.
