Students to help school through Fortnite

A young student from Inverness College UHI is aiming to raise more than £300 for a local primary school.

Karina Laursen, 18, from Westhill, decided to host a 24-hour online gaming marathon this weekend to raise funds for Cradlehall primary.

Miss Laursen, who is studying for an HND in computer science, will be joined by fellow students Craig Cameron from Inverness and Keller Mcgarvey from Nairn from 9am on Saturday as they play Fortnite.

She said: “I had seen many charities for different primary schools, but I have never personally seen one for this school.

“I thought that it would be amazing to help the school”

“I thought that it would be amazing to help the school a bit so that they could buy more equipment for the children, to help them grow both physically and mentally.

“The equipment the school is fundraising for at the moment – white boards and the wooden playground climbing trail – were originally bought by the parent council, helped by the community council ward budget.

“Highland Council’s main education budget doesn’t cover these things, and the school discretionary budget has been cut due to countrywide government spending cuts, hence why the parent council is fundraising to replace and enhance them.

“The parent council has raised a lot of money over the years, but these things are very expensive, so need a fair bit of effort, so that’s why I thought I would try and help as much as I can.”

With her nephew now one of the newest additions at the school, Miss Laursen launched a Just Giving page.
