Manager disappointed by scoreline rather than players

-

Elgin City manager Gavin Price was left bewildered by Saturday’s defeat to Annan Athletic after watching his team control much of the match.

Price absolved his players from blame after missing the chance to climb into the top four play-off zone at the expense of beaten Clyde.

Owen Moxon’s stunning 37 th-minute strike proved the difference between the teams at Borough Briggs, with Elgin dominating large parts of the game without reward.

Price, who remains convinced his side’s luck will turn, said: “I am disappointed, but not with the players; I’m disappointed with the scoreline.

“I haven’t experienced such a one-sided loss before.

“I don’t want to sound bitter but I thought we controlled the game. It will be interesting to see the statistics.”

Price said Annan played it canny in their ruthless approach, and he feels City must become cleverer in those situations.

“Annan do what they do really well. They defend in numbers,” he said.

“They got a lead with their only shot in the first half and it was a great goal, to be fair.

“Then they hung on with bodies behind the ball and we just couldn’t get the breaks.

“I’m delighted with the players in terms of what they put into the game. They remained patient.

“If we play like that in other games then we are going to win more games than we lose. I believe we are doing the right things.”
