Broch hit back against 10 men to keep up unbeaten run

HUNTLY 2 FRASERBURGH 2

Fraserburgh came from two goals down to earn a share of the points at Huntly thanks to goals from Gary Harris and Scott Barbour.

The Broch have now gone 12 league games unbeaten against Huntly and manager Mark Cowie praised his side for the character they showed to come from behind. He said: “We gifted Huntly two goals in the first half but even at half-time I thought we could still come back as we had players on the park who get goals.

“We threw everything at Huntly in the second half but couldn’t get the break to force the lead. Gary Harris and Scott Barbour weren’t fit enough to start but the game changed after they came on. They made a massive difference.”

Huntly manager Martin Skinner was disappointed to miss out on the chance to record a first league win against Fraserburgh since August 2012.

He said: “We were 2-0 up and playing well against a decent Broch side. We took advantage of a goalkeeping mistake for the first through Gary McGowan while David Booth is showing what he brings to the side with a great finish. We gave them too much respect in the second half but we stuck in and did well to keep them out with 10 men for the last 10 minutes.”

McGowan netted the opener for Huntly after 10 minutes when he pounced on a mistake by Broch goalkeeper Paul Leask for his 12th of the campaign.

Huntly doubled their lead in the 31st minute when Booth netted for the first time since his return to the club when he got on the end of a Nicholas Gray flick-on to fire high into the net.

Two Fraserburgh substitutes helped the visitors get back into the match with two goals in the space of 11 minutes. Barbour darted past Ryan McRitchie to send a low cross into the back post for Harris to slot home.

Barbour then restored parity with a free header at the back post minutes to go.

Huntly goalkeeper Euan Storrier suffered a facial injury following a collision with Fraserburgh’s Willie West meaning the hosts played the final eight minutes with 10 men and defender Michael Clack in goal.

Huntly manager Martin Skinner was sent to the stand in the final minute by referee Graham Beaton for kicking the ball away. with 18
