BRORA FORMARTINE

Formartine came from behind to edge out Brora at a wet and windy Dudgeon Park.

Brora playermanager Steven Mackay admitted his players, including himself, paid the price for passing up a series of chances.

He said: “It was a close game and we started very well. We got an early goal and took confidence from that.

“Formartine dominated the last 20 minutes of the first half but I felt we also started the second half on the front foot, created a lot of chances but unfortunately, we just didn’t take them and I’ll include myself as I was guilty of passing up two good chances.

“I came off the bench trying to offer something different and was presented with two chances I would normally back myself to take.”

Brora, who could have gone joint top with a win, led through Martin Maclean’s sixth-minute strike but the Pitmedden side levelled when Graeme Rodger netted his sixth goal of the season.

The winner came in the 68th minute when Archie Macphee fired high past Joe Malin in the Brora goal.

Formartine United striker Garry Wood admitted there was little to choose between the two sides on the day.

He said: “I think we showed a bit of character in coming back from going a goal behind after just six minutes.

“Dudgeon Park is a tough place to go and Brora are a really good side who did put us under a bit of pressure in the second half, but I thought we stood up to it pretty well, and probably just deserved to edge it on the day,” he said.

“Conditions certainly weren’t nice but obviously it was the same for both teams. It spoiled the game a wee bit and, as a result, there probably wasn’t much quality on show.”
