GORDONIANS CAITHNESS
29 8
Gordonians came from behind to keep their unbeaten record intact in National 3 in a bruising and competitive affair at Countesswells with a four try to one win against league newcomers Caithness.
Head coach Ryan Morrice was content with his side’s performance after the 29-8 success.
He said: “We have come a long way since coming into this division last season, but it’s clear Caithness have also come on since we played them two seasons ago in Caley Division 1.”
Opposite number Tom McGee was disappointed by the outcome after three successive wins.
He said: “It was a bad day in terms of the level of performance but Gordonians maximised their opportunities and were clinical in their finishing. We have another game next week against West of Scotland at home and must respond positively.”
The young Caithness side were totally committed and, until half-time, looked like pulling off a shock after taking a lead in seven minutes when hardworking prop Roddy Gray bustled over for a try which stand-off Marc Anderson failed to convert.
Gordonians hit back in 17 minutes when a rare Caithness defensive error allowed centre Darryl Morrow to race over.
Full-back Graeme Crawford added the extras but the Thurso side went into the break in the lead when Anderson converted a long effort in the 39th minute to make it
The Aberdeen side stepped up to the mark after the break with tries from winger Simon Orr (2) and a fine solo effort from Matt Johnston. Crawford added two conversions and a penalty. 8-7.
