Record would be little solace to Mckay

“I would definitely give the unbeaten run up”

Caley Thistle defender Brad Mckay says his side’s 21-match unbeaten run counts for nothing if the Highlanders continue to remain mid-table in the Championship.

Inverness are the only undefeated side in the second tier in a run which stretches back to March, with John Robertson’s men able to equal the club record of 22 matches without defeat set in 1996-97 if they avoid a loss at home to Dunfermline tomorrow.

With Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Alloa Athletic a fifth draw in succession, however, ex-Hearts defender Mckay would sacrifice the undefeated streak in order to gain more points as Inverness are seven points adrift of leaders Ross County.

Mckay said: “I would probably have given it up, I would probably have chucked a couple of losses in there if we had picked up the extra two points here and there from the games we have drawn to get us closer to the teams at the top.

“The unbeaten run doesn’t mean anything to me, it’s the league table that matters and the higher up we are the better.

“I would definitely give the unbeaten run up. I wasn’t even concerned about that,” he said.

“I just want to win games, it’s as simple as that.”

Mckay added: “It’s so frustrating to look at the table.

“We need to start winning games. It’s five draws in a row and we probably got away with not losing against Alloa.”
