Speeding warning after two drivers reported

-

Road policing officers have given a stark warning about speeding after two vehicles were detected driving at more than 100mph in the West Highlands at the weekend.

Drivers caught by officers driving at 115mph and 100mph show a “blatant disregard” for their safety and the safety of others, and will be reported to the procurator fiscal, officers said.

A car was stopped after it was recorded at 115mph in a 60mph limit on the A830, near Kinlocheil, on Friday evening.

A 56-year-old man will be reported to the procurator fiscal in connection with the incident.

“Slow down. Respect the safety of other road users”

Another motorist was stopped after a car was detected travelling at 100mph in the a 60mph limit on the A82 near Letterfinlay on Saturday evening.

A 32-year-old man will be reported to the procurator fiscal.

Sergeant Ewan Calder of the Road Policing Unit in Fort William said: “Motorists who think they can disregard the speed limits to this extent show a blatant disregard for their own safety, not to mention the safety of every other innocent person on the road.

“The outcome of any collision at these speeds would have been catastrophic.

“The consequences of excessive speed are well documented and very real.

“Please slow down. Respect the safety of other road users and if you’re tempted to speed, think about what the consequences of this choice could be.”

Anyone who has concerns about excessive speed can call 101 or 999 in an emergency.

Please only call if it is safe to do so.
