Calder wants to draw a line Caley Thistle: Team unbeaten in 22 games but midfielder after three points

Riccardo Calder does not want Caley Thistle’s players to focus on the club’s unbeaten run.

Avoiding defeat tonight against Dunfermline would match a new club record of 22 games unbeaten, equalling a 21-year-old record, but Calder would much prefer Inverness to end their frustrating habit of drawing games.

Seven of Caley Thistle’s 10 games this season have ended level, including their last five. They can take the positive of not losing games but know that to claw back some of the deficit between them and Ross County at the top of the table, they need to rediscover their ruthless edge.

Calder said: “The unbeaten run gets spoken about by the manager quite a bit, but we just want to break the ice now and not focus on that as much – just get some more wins. We don’t go into games wanting to draw – we always go out to get the three points – but

“I’m confident we’re going on a run where we’re dominating and winning”

the most important thing is we’re not losing.

“If you go through a patch of playing badly or drawing games, something is going to break and you’ll get a change.

“I’m confident we’re going to go on a run of games where we’re dominating and winning. It’s not that we’re playing badly, it’s just we’re not scoring goals at the moment. Once we get that part of it right, we’ll be fine.

“We’re not conceding many goals and if you look at this time last season that was a problem. We sat down and said to each other we need to stop that. We’ve done that and now it is a case of breaking the ice and getting some more goals.”

Calder is in line to feature at the Caledonian Stadium tonight, with captain Carl Tremarco likely to miss out with a thigh injury.

The former Aston Villa and Doncaster man has had to be patient for his chance but feels ready to take his opportunity.

He added: “Every time I’ve come on from the bench it is the opportunity I’ve been waiting for. I’m not too sure how long Carlo is out for – hopefully he is fine.

“But we’re all a big team and if a chance comes along like this you have to try to take it.

“I’ve had to be very patient and when I come on I need to be ready. It isn’t just me, the whole lot of us need to stick together.”
