Bake Off contestant lifts TV title despite showstoppi­ng disaster Magical words from Rowling

Great British Bake Off winner Rahul Mandal has said it was “magic” to learn Harry Potter author JK Rowling had backed him to be prime minister.

He said: “I was very surprised to see JK Rowling tweeting that I could be prime minister, that was absolutely magic

“I have read all the Harry Potter books from cover to cover so it was really a big thing for me to see that tweet.

“I would like to say thank you to all of those who believed and trusted in me for all their lovely comments.” make up for the 15 minutes he lost.

He said of his win: “This is probably the first time that I have got something like this, like a trophy.

“I don’t know whether to laugh or to cry, I just feel I need to talk with my mum.”

Earlier in the episode Rahul impressed the judges with his doughnuts in the signature challenge.

Hollywood described his doughnut filled with mango creme patisserie as “like a mango bomb”.

After crowning Rahul the overall winner, Leith said: “I think the amazing thing about Rahul and why I am so proud of him is that he came in unconfiden­t, but he just kept going.”

Paul Hollywood said: “His intensity sometimes is amazing, and he is so good at what he does, but I don’t think he realises still how good he actually is.”
