England have dropped Mike Brown for the first time in the Eddie Jones era.

He was omitted from a 25-man squad named for Saturday’s clash against South Africa.

Brown has been a virtual ever-present since 2012 and had never previously been left out of Jones’ strongest matchday 23 when fit, appearing in 29 of the Australian head coach’s 31 Tests in charge.

However, the Harlequins full-back will play no part against the Springboks at Twickenham, despite impressing when picked on the wing over three Tests against the same opposition in the summer.

With the 33-year-old out of contention, Elliot Daly is certain to continue at full-back and Jones will choose two wings out of Chris Ashton, Jonny May and Jack Nowell. best way to sum up my career so far is it’s built my character and made me who I am today.

“It’s been no easy run. A lot of people think stuff is handed to people but there’s been injuries and family stuff that has made not just my gymnastics career but my life in general very emotional.

“It’s great to feel like I’ve come out of the other end, and my tattoo basically represents everything that has happened – every hardship and every emotional rollercoaster.

“It’s taken 32 hours of sitting and it can get very painful but it’s almost finished now.

“It will look great when it’s done and it is good timing because I feel like my career is only just beginning.”

Bevan qualified in 11th place for the men’s allaround final, in which he will be joined by teammate James Hall, and has recovered from two tough falls in the men’s team final on Monday.
